Letraset

My good friend and (sadly) ex-colleague Pete pointed me to this amazing article about Letraset - the method designers used to get clean type and halftone shading back in pre-digital days.

It's fascinating, but also makes you wonder how anyone made any money out of advertising or design - making 15 rounds of amends to a Photoshop comp would be brutal but do-able, but starting all over again 15 times and manually rubbing letters onto the page would take literally weeks, and probably make you die a bit inside.
